BMI

S3 are learning about body mass index. They used their ipads to work out Mrs Offord's BMI and confirmed she needs to go back on her diet. They then worked out the BMI of a TV star. They all had a chance to work out their own BMI if they wanted - Nicol had a go at this. Their task is now to make a moodboard that gets across a message about obesity to help Mrs Offord go back to weight watchers!

Digital Art Exhibition

Today, with the help of artist & photographer Graham Mckenzie Smith, we put up a digital art exhibition of over 80 framed prints. The prints are of a range of artworks created on the iPad by pupils from all stages of the school.

The exhibition is part of the Technology for Excellence conference that is being hosted by the school this week.

Middle school pupils will be opening the exhibition to parents, friends and the general public in the near future - we will keep you posted!

S3 Reading

Melissa emailed us this story to read: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-14761423

She asked us if we thought that vending machines should be banned from hospitals. Nearly everyone thought that they shouldn't, and Nico made the valid point that people have a choice and they don't need to buy food from them.

We also discussed if vending machines should be replaced and, if so, with what. Nicol suggested that instead of getting rid of vending machines, the usual crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks could be replaced with healthier alternatives, such as sandwiches.

By discussing their opinions regarding issues raised in a news story, the class are developing their critical thinking skills, which are vital in making good progress in English!
